Minimalism and Not

Gallery Benoit, Boston, Massachusetts, 2013

For several years my work has been driven by an effort to rid the paintings of expressionism, composition, and reference. The painting process was designed so that the paintings, in many ways, made themselves…unfolded. Minimalism has always provided a kind of purifying endgame. As a middle-aged man afraid of falling off of edges I was, once, thrillingly contained by this minimalist/conceptualist process. I now feel the pleasurable call of uncertainty.
